Central to Traditional Chinese Medicine is an understanding of chi, the Chinese name for a person's life energy or vital life force. "We (in the west) didn't grow up with a concept like chi," notes Nancy Floy, who teaches at the Midwest Center for the Study of Oriental Medicine, "but in the East they don't think of it as a mystical or magical thing.
